Cannabis Terms to be Familiar With

Let’s be honest—cannabis can be confusing. With so many compounds, effects and legal terms, it’s easy to feel lost in the weeds. Here’s a rundown of essential cannabis terms you should know! Let’s dive in!

  • Cannabinoids: A chemical compound that interacts with cannabinoid receptors. There are three types of cannabinoids: phytocannabinoids, endocannabinoids and synthetic cannabinoids.

  • CBC (Cannabichromene): Potential brain protector; no high

  • CBD (Cannabidiol): A light calm and a great inflammation fighter; no high

  • CBG (Cannabigerol): The one all other cannabinoids come from; pain relief, no high

  • CBN (Cannabinol): Helps with nighttime relaxation; creates a very mild high

  • Delta-8-THC and Delta-10-THC: While both are naturally found, these minor phytocannabinoid are only found in very, very small quantities, so anything that you are buying is often made in labs. As of right now, products containing delta-8-THC and delta-10-THC are not regulated, meaning anyone can make or sell them without testing!

  • Delta-9-THC: Delta-9-THC is the most abundant and psychoactive cannabinoid of the cannabis plant. It is legal and regulated in NJ—and it’s the only THC you’ll find in our products!

  • Endocannabinoids: These are what your body naturally produces within your endocannabinoid system.

  • Hemp product: A finished product with a delta-9-THC concentration of up to 0.3%, no more than 0.5 mg THC per serving and 2.5 mg THC per package and excludes synthetic cannabinoid products.

  • Hexahydrocannabinol aka HHC: A semi-synthetic cannabinoid derived from hemp

  • Intoxicating hemp product: Any product cultivated, derived or manufactured from hemp with a total THC concentration exceeding 0.5 milligrams per serving and 2.5 milligrams per package and excludes synthetic cannabinoid products.

  • Phytocannabinoids: These occur naturally within the cannabis plant. There are over 100 of these cannabinoids and the most well-known are delta-9 THC and CBD.

  • Schwazzing: Trimming branches and leaves to help the plants focus their energy on growing the biggest colas.

  • Synthetic cannabinoids: Lab-made substances designed to mimic the effects of natural cannabinoids. These are often illicitly manufactured and sold.

  • Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC): This phytocannabinoid is the one that gets you high.

  • Total THC: This includes the combined concentration of all tetrahydrocannabinols, such as delta-8, delta-9, delta-10, tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, and any chemically similar compounds, derivatives, or isomers, regardless of their origin or manufacturing process.

  • Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid aka THCa: Is a naturally occuring cannabinoid that does not have psychoactive qualities when consumed. If THCa is heated, smoked or vaped, it turns into psychoactive THC. Like Delta-8 and Delta-10-THC, this is not regulated!
